At #10 tee, we have a couple interesting specimen trees. The two small staked trees above are American Chestnuts. First Lady, Mrs. Benedict, donated these to the Club after obtaining them through the American Chestnut Foundation. Below, is a few years of growth of an Aspen tree that was donated to the Club by Dr. Tynes. I never imagined the tree would thrive like it has in this spot.
Above, siltation is yet again an issue on the 10th hole. I met with a grading contractor today, who is working on estimates to dredge this portion of the pond as well as the upper end of #15 pond. We are looking into long reach excavators in addition to drag lines. This information will be presented to the green committee and hopefully we'll be able to proceed on this work next winter. Below, some odd fungal disease is attacking the Poa trivialis (Rough Bluegrass) in #5 fairway. I've never seen this before, where the bentgrass was uneffected. Two fungicides were applied, most recently as today.
