Rain rain and more rain...

Rain for this week is pushing the 8" mark! Today we are looking at some heavy winds and pretty severe storms. While the course will open on Tuesday, I plan to devote a day or so to clean up and letting things dry out.  While grass tolerates this weather, the lack of sun is really hurting growth.  Just as I've said with shade, reduced sunlight leads to reduced photosynthesis which leads to less growth. It is a simple science.  When turf goes several days without sun, it takes on a chlorotic, yellow look that will go away when sun returns. Extended periods of reduced sun, like turf growing under the shade of trees, will thin out and eventually succumb to the stress of mowing and traffic. Mowing will resume Wednesday provided the course get some drying conditions.
