Trade Show

The golf industry show is a great opportunity to see first hand what is out on the market.  I was very impressed with this small turf plot of a newer bentgrass variety known as Pure Distinction. The turf was harvested from Augusta National by Dr Joe Duich of Penn State. This was one of Dr. Duich's last variety of bentgrass he developed before he passed away last year. This shows tremendous potential for golf greens because of its density and color. Dr. Duich is responsible for the A and G series of bentgrasses. HCC currently has Penn A4 bentgrass greens. The croquet courts are Penn A1.

Capillary concrete is a newer material used in bunker construction. Similar to the billy bunker spec, it allows water to drain through the concrete allowing the sand to remain clean and keeps waging to a minimum. Overtime, this can save a tremendous amount of labor in addition to better bunker quality.

My main interest is a new equipment wash facility. In this system, the water is treated and recycled over and over. It separates solids like grass clippings that can be hauled off and composted. Our current system cleans water and discharges it but doesn't recycle. As an environmental leader, we need something much better.
