#15 foot bridge

If you recall, we lost the rock walk bridge on the 15th creek this past fall.  It was resting on a 12" irrigation main line which is a recipe for disaster! The rock was too large for any of our equipment to pick up so we simply slid it into the bank to cover some erosion.  This morning, our goal was to set a new rock bridge on #15.  The rock used came from the 10th hole, next to the new wooden cart bridge built in 2012.  With the new bridge in place, the rock bridge no longer served a purpose.

Unfortunately, when we moved the rock, it broke in half.  Luckily, one of the halves was still large enough to span the creek on #15.

Above, is the location of the old rock bridge on #10.  The wooden bridge can obviously handle both cart and foot traffic.

The new bridge is in place.  I like the understated look...wide enough and safe to cross but doesn't stick out with headwalls and other unnecessary support. The rock is about 5-6' long and 3' wide.  Later this winter, we will work on sloping the ground down to the entry and exit of the rock bridge.
