As previously advertised, we vented greens for the 2nd time this morning using 1/4" hollow tines. The greens were topdressed (sand) followed by a potassium fertilizer application (0-0-13). The primary reason for this is to allow for oxygen to get to the rootzone. In addition, 1% of the green's organic matter is also removed. This may not seem like a lot, but my total objective for the year is 25% organic matter removal. We do this process (1/4" hollow tines) 3x during the season for a total of 3%. Our winter processes account for the other 22% removal. If we didn't follow a well thought our program, the results would be disastrous. Soft, thatchy greens that hold water would not meet the expectations of the membership.
