My family and I headed north for a few days. After a day in Winchester VA, we drove to Hershey, PA. Today, we spent the day in Philadelphia seeing the historic landmarks. We spent the morning at the Ben Franklin Institute, a science museum in center city. I thought this particular exhibit was pretty cool. It shows how important plants are to the environment, particularly turf, when it comes to soil stabilization. It is no secret golf courses receive a lot of bad publicity, often without scientific proof. People also fail to recognize the benefits they provide. Community green space, water filtration and soil stabilization are great environmental benefits golf course offer.
Tomorrow, we are spending the day in Gettysburg and heading back to Highlands on Tuesday. Leaving town for a few days makes me appreciate the quality of life we live in Highlands. It is certainly easy to take for granted.
