A common occurrence on cool season golf courses in the winter is the turfgrass pathogen, Pink snow mold. Despite its name, snow is not a requirement for the disease to spread. It is common to see this on all bentgrass surfaces. At HCC, we tend to see it in the roughs because this is the only area we do not treat with a preventative fungicide application. However, it cleans up relatively easy in the rough after a systemic fungicide application and the turf will grow out of it before the season really gets going. Of course it got its name from the pink mycelium that can be seen in and around the infected turf.
