Spiking Greens

This morning we are performing a very non disruptive but yet beneficial practice.  During this we take a machine equipped with small blades that poke very slight slits into the turf surface.  Later this evening we will follow with a light topdressing.  The small slits made by the spiker will allow the sand to get down into the thatch layer to help dilute the amount of organic matter that is produced.  The sand that is then left on the surface will also help provide a smoother and slightly faster ball roll.
