One of the things we do to prep the course for an early April opening, is to fertilize fairways with straight Ammonium Sulfate. This Nitrogen source is known to turn grass a pretty shade of green and is effective in cool weather (not cold weather). We will come back in Mid April when the weather warms up with a slow release fertilizer know as Polyon. Polyon is made in Sylacauga, Alabama and the company owns the golf resort known as Farmlinks. The polyon I use also contains a crabgrass pre-emergent.
