While walking Mr. Martin's property with him a couple weeks ago, he showed me an interesting path on the 4th hole. In this photo, if you see the white flag on the tree, there is a path beside it. This is where a caddie would hand the golfer his putter and driver and then cut through the woods down to the 5th hole. Once the tee shot on 5 was hit, the caddie would meet up with his respective golfer at the bottom of the hill. The path is still in tact but rhododendron have covered it in some areas.
The orange ribbon to the right of the photo are marking some trees and rhodos that died because of a noxious weed known as bittersweet. This is the same stuff used for fall decor, bought at grocery stores etc. DON'T BUY IT! Birds take the colorful red and yellow berries and scatter them around. The bittersweet vine will overtake native plants.
