Driving range divot study
Turf on any range tee is limited. The golf and green staff do a great job rotating the bag stands to ensure we have turf season long. We also go to mats when the turf is excessively wet and also the months of April and November when no recovery takes place. There is also something you can do! Rather than hit your practice balls in a random pattern, use the "stripe" method. Dr. McKey has made this famous at HCC. Today I started an experiment where I hit 20 balls...10 random and 10 in a stripe. The effective turf disrupted was 280 square inches (random) versus 129 square inches (stripe). This means if every member did this we would save 50% more turf. That is huge. You can see below where I am studying the recovery time.
