Dredging #10 Pond

I thought this might be interesting for you to see some of the details behind this winter's dredging project on #10.  First, to orient yourself with this map, you can clearly see the pond on #10, labeled, Club Lake.  At the very top of the map is Dillard Road.  Where the letter A is, is the the beginning of the fairway on #10.  I used the letters A, B and C to mark some key areas/components of the project.

A. Before the project starts, a temporary road will be constructed from Dillard Road, across the 10th fairway, where dump trucks can back across to be loaded with sediment.  This road will be made of gravel and then removed after the project is completed.  The dredging itself is a big expense but the setup and cleanup for this project is equally as much.  Also in this area, will be a sediment de-watering area.  Once the sediment is removed from the lake, it will be piled up in this area, where the water can drain from the soil, before it's loaded and hauled off.

B.  The creek on #10 will be dammed up and a large pipe will be installed to bypass the pond.  In order to do this, we will be removing a portion of the cart path on #10 and digging a significantly large ditch to house this 130' long, 2' wide diversion pipe.

C. This is the location of the first forebay.  As I've talked about before, a forebay is a underwater rock structure that reduces water velocity, causing the water to drop it's sediment load.  By building a series of these, we are creating sediment holding areas that can be cleaned out more regularly, rather than having to dredge the whole lake.

I'll be posting more about this project as the plans and permitting come together!
