Bentgrass Spraying

Over the next couple weeks, you're going to see Creeping Bentgrass in the rough, turning white in color like this behind the 1st green.  This chemical, known as Tenacity, is labeled to remove Bentgrass from Kentucky Bluegrass/Tall Fescue roughs.  In an effort to keep our newer roughs clean from Bentgrass contamination, this is an excellent tool that will help extend the life of new sod.  Unfortunately, the chemical only is effective in the autumn, requiring three applications spaced 14 days between aps.  The goal is to catch the bent while it's small and the surrounding turf can fill the void left by dead Bentgrass.  Larger areas will need to be resodded.  Again, we are only using this product on holes where the rough has been replaced in the last 2 years.  This is not new to Highlands CC, as I have played with this product many times in the last 10 years.  This year however, I really want to commit to this program on newer sod.
