3D Scanning of Green Complexes at HCC

As I mentioned yesterday, we are creating digital topography maps for each green complex on the golf course.  This blog post gives you a feel for the equipment being used.  I asked what happens when golfers are on the green as this machine records data.  The answer is that the machine will gather data for golfers on the green but before the data is mapped, the technician has to manually remove those data points that were collected because of people on the green.  The Technician told me a story of a course he mapped in Palm Springs where the course played 180 rounds per day while he was mapping!  That's a lot of golfers and a lot of work to remove those data points.

These points are GPS coordinates that the topo machine recognizes as fixed points.  As the machine builds it's model, these globes are used as reference points for the equipment.
