This winter, the projects we are working on, are really complimenting each other nicely. At Highlands CC, we approach projects in a very efficient and sustainable manner. For example, on the 17th approach, we excavated a very large amount of material to reshape that surface. Rather than haul that soil off site, which costs money, we are using that material to build the new forward tees. If the 17th hole project wasn't taking place, we would have had to pay to haul soil on site for the new tees. Speaking of the 17th approach, all of the grass had to be removed from the approach prior to starting the reshaping. All of that sod went to the expansion of the "island" on the 10th hole. Again, these are just some examples of how we make best use of the resources we have.
I mentioned last week that we started on the 18th bridge. We replaced a number of the 3x8" boards on the bridge floor that were in poor condition. You can see we are installing 1x6" decking boards over the top of the floor. Since the boards are being fastened length wise, the bridge will be a lot less bumpy than it's been in the past. This should be a nice improvement. Once the new floor in installed, we'll start on the rails.
This photo above, gives you the best feeling for the new elevation change on the 17th approach.
These photos show the expansion of the green, built to USGA specifications.
The #17 approach and green project are coming along. You can see the remainder of the approach excavation is now complete. In addition, we are now coring out the putting green extension so it can be rebuilt to USGA specifications.
Finally, on the 10th hole, we just about have the one tee on #10 regrassed.
