This morning, we had a demonstration of the new Husqvarna Automower at the Club. This mower, which sells for $5,000 can mow as low as roughly 1/2". Like with any kind of equipment purchase, it is important to weigh all the benefits and efficiencies to determine if the equipment will actually provide better conditions on the golf course or, if it will save resources by reducing manual labor, for example. While this technology is impressive and fun, it would be difficult to justify the expense in the case of this mower for our needs at Highlands CC. It would be fun to say we have autonomous mowers out doing their thing, but that's the extent of it. Its battery life is about 5 hours, before it needs to return to its home base for charging. This company will be selling autonomous fairway mowers and those have potential to be a game changer.
