Aggressive Grooming

Above is a close up of the practice green.  The small lines you see are a result of the aggressive grooming we did this morning to thin out some turf and smooth the surface.  Grooming, or verticutting as some might call it, is the best practice for smoothing out and speeding up greens.  I usually consider verticutting a practice that gets below the surface (like the Graden process we do each spring) where as grooming is above the surface, but down into to the canopy of turf.  In another week or two, we'll begin our sand topdressing routine for the season.  Today's stimpmeter reading is right at 11 feet.
