The goose above, relaxing in Club Lake, doesn’t realize life is about to get little worse. Go get ‘em, Happoldt!
Above and below, soap flushes continue in order to keep track of Annual Bluegrass Weevil (ABW) populations on tees and fairways. You can see the insect in the center of the photo above. The most we've counted thus far is 4 ABW per square foot on the 1st fairway. We will pull the trigger on treating with an insecticide once that population rises to about 10 ABW per square foot. As mentioned a few times in the past, soap irritates the insect, causing it to surface, where we can count how many adults are in a given area. These adults overwintered from last year and feed on the shoots of turf. They will also lay eggs, which will then become larva. The larva are notorious for feeding on roots, below ground. ABW is a dynamic pest that requires treatment consisting of different modes of action in order to achieve control. The products used to control ABW are unfortunately very costly as well.
Only 2 day away! Pins and tee markers are out on the course as of this morning!
