Above, we are getting our Poa annua nursery back in shape after additional seeding a week ago. A heavy topdressing application was made to the nursery to protect the crowns of the new seedlings.
This morning we started our bulk fertilizer application to the golf course and practice facility. The practice facility is a great place to calibrate the spreader setting because it measures exactly 5 acres. This application is spread at a rate of 300 lbs. fertilizer per acre, meaning the range requires 1,500 lbs. in order to have the correct setting. This is a 22-0-7 Polyon fertilizer with pendamethalin herbicide, a crabgrass pre-emergent chemical, mixed in with it. Since the fertilizer prills are coated in a polymer, the nutrients are timed released and will last approximately six months in the soil.
We had a bear attack at the practice facility in the early morning hours. Fortunately no people were involved but the one chipping green and its flagstick where targeted. I've said it before and I'll say it again; something needs to give with these bears. If they want to play out here, fine. But they need to learn some etiquette, particularly when it comes to tending the pin. I'm sure they wouldn't want to putt through the mess they left above. That would definitely cause a par put to be pushed offline.
