Such a great photo of the R&A clubhouse in St. Andrews with the West Sands beach/North Sea in the background. Working on the Old Course for a year in 1999, this was a view I never grew tired of. All of our topdressing sand and bunker sand came from the this beach. The topdressing sand was sifted to remove seashells, while the bunker sand went directly into the hazards, shells and all. The maintenance facility, shown by the yellow arrow, was built to blend into the existing sand dunes. As you can see, it was successfully accomplished. This facility housed the maintenance teams for the Old, New and Jubilee courses, all of which are adjacent to each other. Each course had about 12 Greenkeepers responsible for their upkeep.
