Not a day passes that I don't appreciate this Chestnut that was planted about 13 years ago. Yancey Stribling purchased the tree; it was 1" caliper at the time! In fact, it looked tiny and out of place for a number of years. It's grown to fill the space and hopefully lives for a very long time. As you know, a blight (a blight is an all encompassing generic term for a fungus) killed all the Chestnut trees in Western NC. There are numerous hybrid varieties that are blight resistant. This particular tree is a cross between an American and Chinese Chestnut.
