For the last number of years it seems like we are seeing more "tents" in our trees this time of year. Most people refer to these as Tent Worms, when in fact, they are Fall Webworms. Tent worms would only be visible in the spring and their silk nests are constructed closer to the trunk of trees. Webworms on the other hand, build their nests in late summer/ early fall. They are also constructed out toward the tips of tree branches which is what you're seeing in Highlands. Check out this University of New Hampshire extension sheet on the subject:
