Fine Fescues

Our Fine Fescue 'Native Areas' are really looking nice with the abundance of seed-head. These areas are a mixture of Chewings, Sheeps and Hard Fescue. While I tend to call these areas, "Native" they really are not. Fescues are native to Europe before being introduced to the US over a century ago.  These areas thrive under low fertility and drought conditions.  Areas like this that get hit by irrigation never turn out as pretty as those areas lacking irrigation.  Creeping Red Fescue is another species of fine fescue but it doesn't provide the clump-like growth habit with nice seed-head like the species I mentioned above.
