I you haven't putted on the new putting green at the practice facility, you are missing out! This green is about a pure as a bentgrass putting green can be. It is comprised of variety, Pure Distinction Bentgrass.
Above and Below, we are resodding a portion of the chipping area at the practice putting green. The area was suffering from drought stress and a tent with 400 people in it did not allow for a better outcome. Rather than me try to nurse the area back to health over the period of weeks, I opted to re-grass it. As visible as this area is, I felt the need for new turf was warranted. New bentgrass sod is coming from Morganton, NC and will be arriving in a refrigerated truck on Friday morning.
Finally, it is DRY! Not only are we having these warm days with low humidity, but we have a steady breeze too. This creates a challenging scenario for us! It is tough to keep the turf green and healthy when we have those kinds of conditions, with no relief in sight. On top of that, our antiquated irrigation system isn't exactly helping during times like this. Each day, 4 team members are dragging hoses around just to keep grass alive. We do our best but there are many areas on the perimeter that are beginning to suffer. Our goal is using a less than perfect irrigation source to keep grass alive and at the same time, try to make sure the fairways don't get too wet.
