Soil and Water Testing

This is a great time of year to send off soil tests and irrigation water tests to see if there are any adjustments that we need to make for the coming season.  Soil testing from greens and water testing is done by Dr. David York, a private lab in Pittsburgh, PA.  I've been using Dr. York for roughly 20 years and appreciate his procedures for testing and his recommendations.  All of of fertility looks as to be expected with the amount of rainfall and lack of growth we've experienced this fall.  #2 green is my only area of concern due to the high sulfate content in the soil.  This number in indicative of a poorly draining green (which isn't the case in #2).  As you know, shade is a huge factor and that green simply doesn't metabolize nutrients like our other greens growing in healthier environments.  I'll be keeping a close eye on #2 and will be modifying the quantity of nutrients we add to the turf on that green.
