New Team Member

Chris Wells

Our newest team member started this week and we are glad he's joined us!  Chris Wells came to us by way of Highlands Falls CC.  Chris will be helping us on the golf course this winter and spring and will transition to the role of superintending the Practice Facility- the job Harold Davis did so well last year.  Harold moved into the role of Assistant Superintendent and will spend his time on the golf course in the seasons to come.  Chris brings a lot of experience to Highlands CC!

He started playing golf at the age of 2 in Charlottesville, VA on Farmington CC (Incidentally, the clubhouse was designed by Thomas Jefferson).  Growing up around golf, he eventually worked on the grounds crew of Columbia CC, after his family moved to South Carolina in 1970.  He spent 4 years at University of SC before transferring to Horry Georgetown and earning a degree in Turfgrass Management. In 1987, Chris worked at Wade Hampton GC during his internship and returned in 1988 as an assistant superintendent.  After 4 years, Chris left to be the super at Holly Forest GC (the old Sapphire National) for one year before going to work for Steve Melnyk in Columbia at Crickentree GC.  He was super there for 4.5 years.  Most recently, after 2 years at Sapphire National, he moved on to Highlands Falls.  With the position at the practice facility open, we're glad he decided to join our team!

Chris also has a 19 year old daughter who is a freshman at Frances Marion University in Florence, SC.  Be sure to welcome Chris this Spring when you see him on the practice tee!
