Dredging #2 Pond

This afternoon after finishing up the regrading of #10 cart path, we took our excavator to #2 and started dredging what we are able to reach from the bank of the pond.  During the heavy rains earlier this year, a lot of sediment was deposited in the mouth of this pond.  Sediment is one of the perils of living in an area like Highlands.  Abundant rainfall and steep slopes leads to water that moves fast!  Some sedimentation is impossible to prevent and any kind of man-made pond or lake becomes nothing more than a sediment collection area.  If you have a stream on your property and you're considering creating a pond- it's best to leave it like it is and not create something (a pond) that will become a maintenance nightmare. At Highlands CC, the ponds on #2 and #15 are examples of what used to be streams.  Sometime in the 1950's or 1960's, the decision was made to create ponds in these areas.
