Just like stripes on a Golf Course fairway, other patterns can be made by laying the turf in a particular direction. This allows light to reflect off the grass blades differently. On a fairway for example, the light colored stripes are when the grain is going away from you. Dark colored stripes is when the grain is coming towards you. When you apply this at another level, you can make shapes like stars as well.
