Spot spraying for broadleaf weeds...

It's that time of year...the germination of several broadleaf weeds and summer annuals.  While grassy weeds (like crabgrass) are best controlled using pre-emergent chemicals, broadleaf weeds (like clover, dandelion etc.) are controlled with selective herbicides after they emerge.  A selective herbicide is a product that kills weeds but doesn't harm the turf.  The most well known selective herbicide in the homeowners market is Ortho's Weed-B-Gone.  Rather than mix up a 200-300 gallon sprayer, we use back pack sprayers and walk the entire property.  This is a matter of finer detail as well as using less herbicide.
