Update on the Storm from Highlands Town Hall

The easy restorations of power have been made. Areas like Bowery an Mirror Lake where mostly lines were down are up now. Places like Satulah, Bear Pen, Holt Knob and Wilson Road had major losses of trees, lines and power poles. The crews are now working on these difficult areas and it may take several days to rebuild the system in these areas. For instance, a 3 phase pole near Hudson fell and it is in a gully. Other poles in the area are split and will have to be replaced. Crews will have to pull the poles in place with wenches. These operations take time so some parts of the town will be out of power for several more days.

Another crew is on its way from Tennessee to help tomorrow. The Shelby crew is on site working. Duke has said it is a 7 day storm which means some their customers may be out for a week. We hope to have everything up by the weekend.

The debris site at the lower parking lot at the Rec. Center is operational as of this morning.

Folks out of power can shower at the Rec park. Cots are available if they want to spend the night, provided they bring bedding. No pets are allowed and no food is provided.
