Monday

Above, after a couple days of hand watering on #7 fairway, most of the wilted areas have returned to green.  As I mentioned in a past post, wilt is inevitable unless we overwater fairways.  For golfers who appreciate firm conditions, a little brown from time to time is usually acceptable, because they understand what it takes to provide those conditions.

Boxwood Blight is continuing to pop up in several different properties around Highlands.  It's important to remember that Boxwoods are also susceptible to a number of other fungal diseases and insect damage.  Just because you have a yellow stem (like below) doesn't mean it is Boxwood Blight.  This is the case in the photo below.  However, the actual Boxwood Blight is most common this time of year according to NC State researchers.  I can't stress enough (I am asked about this daily-usually multiple times) that fungicide applications on a 14-21 day intervals are required to protect your shrubs.  Otherwise, it is really just a matter of time before they are infected and it's a lost cause.
