I enjoy following several social media sites which allow me to see what other supers are doing in the industry. This was a particularly interesting one from Cypress Point Club (CA). They are in the midst of a bunker renovation and with that, are installing drip irrigation on the steep slope bunker faces. Every area of the country is subject to it's own unique set of challenges based on the climate. In Highlands, it happens to be 96" of rain per year and the issues that presents. At Cypress Point Club, I would imagine both drying winds and salinity issues with irrigation water are challenges. Superintendents tend to be creative problem solvers and do whatever is necessary to fix a problem. In this case, subsurface irrigation helps them maintain the turf on these steep slopes. Its definitely an interesting and creative way to manage that challenge. We never stop learning!
