Thursday

This morning started out as another frigid day at 8 degrees.  We spent the majority of the morning inside, starting with safety training.  Above, Jerry and Dave finished up of these HCC crates we built that will be used by staff for range balls.  Unfortunately, as you see below, any perennial or annual that was above ground is officially waxed for the year- in the case of annuals.  These perennial daylilies will grow back after we remove this foliage.  Plants like daffodils and tulips don't do well in Highlands because of our unpredictable weather patterns during spring.  Warm March weather is often followed by a week or two of frigid weather in late March/early April.  Anything that germinated during the warm period quickly meets its demise.  Covering plants isn't practical because wind is also an issue this time of year.  When the temp hits under 10 degrees or less, its not much warmer under any cover that's on the market that I am aware of.

This afternoon, temperatures got into the low 30's and the sod was dry enough to where it couldn't freeze.  We installed about 1/2 a truck load on the 10th hole.  At this point, one more load should finish us up.  You can see the nice definition between rough and fairway and by the time the temperatures warm up consistently, it will be a nice shade of green!

A lot of rockwork was done in the creek as well.  Once we hydroseed some fine fescues between the rocks, this should take on a more natural look.
