Friday

Using rock from the Forrester/Gleason property that the club recently purchased, we are enhancing some of the water features on the golf course including the 16th hole creek.

Above, a few rock outcroppings are even tagged with yardages.

Below, is a telling photo of the challenges of HCC.  This photo was taken at 9:30am and there is no sun reaching 1 and 2 green.  Grass is a living, breathing organism and photosynthesis is the method used by plants to make food.  Most plants, especially grass, is most photosynthetically active in the morning and morning sun is CRITICAL.  Think of a marathon runner who needs to be in top form to perform.  That individual would eat multiple, small meals all day.  Now, pretend we tell that individual: "you have to be an Olympic caliber marathon runner, but you are only allowed to eat once a day, between the hours of noon and 2pm, and it won't be quality food either."  How would you expect the performance to change?  My guess, is dramatically.  In short, you can't expect to have top quality conditioned turf  with out providing adequate natural resources to the turf.  With 2 hours or less sun per day on select greens, we are forced to get very conservative with maintenance.
