Late this morning a tree fell across the 12th fairway. It was sawed up and stacked by the cart path where it will be chipped up in the morning. The tree, a dead hemlock, was growing at a 90* angle out of the creek bank.
We will be treating hemlocks again this year, in September. I think it is well worth the effort and minor expense. My choice of treatment methods is soil injections and soil drenches, depending on the size of the tree. Our primary chemical of choice is Bayer's, Merit insecticide but occasionally use a newer chemical known as Safari. It will get into the tree much faster making it a better choice for trees that are too far gone. Unfortunately, Safari is more expensive than Merit.
This particular tree was not one that was noticeable and will not be missed.
