You may have notice some minor aquatic weed growth in Swan Lake. On Monday and Tuesday, the high winds pushed a lot of the debris over to #10 pond, making it seem like a much bigger issue. If you recall, this was a big problem last year. However, if you also recall, I went and became certified as an aquatics pesticide applicator by the State of NC. That has really been beneficial both financially and practically for HCC. Bladderwort is still the weed I face and I've been able to keep the population to a minimum. Again, when it all blew to #10, it made the issue look worse than it realty is. In fact, it allowed me to treat the weeds while they were all contained. I am limited on what I can use right now because of the drought we are facing. If we can ever get some rain, I will be able to treat more aggressively. Remember, all of our irrigation water is pulled from this pond. That means anything I treat with will ultimately end up on the grass. That would not be good with some products which are the equivalent of Round-Up. The weeds are a bigger issue these last two years for 2 reasons. One, our dredging operation stirred up a lot of settled nutrient load on the bottom of the lake. Second, the work being done on the dam above the 10th hole is doing similar things. However, its nothing we can't handle and once Mother Nature offers some relief in the way of rain, we will get back on top of it.
