Friday

The Croquet project is beginning to wind down while the course is transitioning nicely this spring.

Below is a google Earth image of the Valentine Turfgrass Research center at Penn State, a place I logged some long hours as an undergrad.  It is named after Joesph Valentine, long time Merion GC super. Valentine and Eb Stieninger, longtime Pine Valley super, were instrumental in the early days of the PSU program.   The colorful plots in the center of the photo are Poa annua Biotypes from courses all over the world. I posted this to show you the color variation of this turf.  It's amazing the hues of blues and greens and this shows you why this can be such an ugly turf with numerous Biotypes growing on the same green.
