I got an interesting call today to get a drone to dry falls to help Highlands Fire and Rescue find a man who fell off the falls yesterday morning. There were numerous areas in the Cullasaja River the rescue crews couldn't traverse and a drone was the only way they could scout those areas. Christian and I spent the better part of 3 hours on site helping with the effort...our reputation as "drone experts" has gotten out. I am surprised the sheriffs dept doesn't have a drone for cases like this. In the end, the water was simply too cold and the deseased 45 year old Atlanta man was pulled from the frigid waters at 2:00 PM Sunday, by an Asheville dive team. It was a heck of an experience and one I personally can't get out of my head. I have a new found respect for those that chose the profession of a rescue worker.
The water is moving fast with the amount of rain this past month. The individual tried to climb a fence for a better view. Please use common sense with your family when visiting these falls or any in the area. They are not engineered for safety!
