Getting ready for Spring

It's hard to believe that spring is just 8 weeks away.  We have an incredible amount of work that needs to be done yet, with limited staff.  Looking back, we've accomplished an incredible amount of work as well!  In fact, it's been the most productive off season in terms of work performed by the staff.  The bunker project alone consumed most of this time.  This will limit how much sod work we will be able to do.  Taking on projects using "in-house" labor has its advantages but it also takes away from other projects that would otherwise be done.  For example, there was a tremendous cost savings doing the bunkers ourselves.  However, as stated above, the Kentucky Bluegrass sod replacement we traditionally do was not a high priority this year.

There may be snow on the ground but its not too early to get the new hives out in fresh air to be ready for spring.  I am using a more traditional hive this year in addition to the Warre hives I've used in the past with limited success.
