Building relationships is critical in all businesses and the golf industry is no different. I had the pleasure of spending a good part of the day with Dr. Jim Kerns, Professor of Turfgrass Pathology and Lee Butler, who operates the turfgrass diagnostic lab at NC State University. Both of the gentlemen are great resources and time spent with them is invaluable. I have worked hard over the past 2 years, involved with Rounds 4 Research, which raised about $30,000 for Turfgrass research through NC State. In fact, last May, I presented a $40,000 check to the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences in Raleigh during our visit with the Governor. This was part of NC Golf Day. Through this involvement and support, I've been able to build numerous relationships that have a direct benefit to Highlands CC. It is something I am quite proud of. This year, along with my good friend and colleague at Carolina Golf Club in Charlotte, Matthew Wharton, I will Co-Chair Rounds 4 Research.
