The Highlander reported data yesterday (from Biological Station) and it appears we are still 21" below normal for this time of year even with that system last week. Putting this into perspective, we are currently sitting at a rainfall total that would be the average US city total for the full year. We still have about 2.5 months to go.
I would rather have dry autumn season with regards to the golf course. I love seeing the course playing firm and fast and those cool, clear mornings tighten grass up and everything is just fast. When we get excess rain, earthworms become a nightmare on our fairways in areas we didn't deal with them during the summer. I do have my magic organic fertilizer but making broad spectrum applications to fairways is cost prohibitive. Grass growth is starting to slow and its growth rate doesn't match that of the rate that earthworm's create castings. The compounding problem leads to "muddy" fairways in areas. This is one reason it is so important to continue our fairway sand topdressing program every year. Earthworms tend to avoid sandy soils.

Finally, I am sure glad it isn't 1912 when it was 21 degrees!
