Wasp nest on #3

The Mountain Laurel below the ladies tee on the 3rd hole (between 2/3) has a wasp nest in the very top (a pretty one at that!).  We did treat this but it will take several more applications to eliminate the bees.  There simply isn't an easy or safe way to get this down until the wasps are gone.  We appreciate you passing information along when you see wasp or yellow jacket nest on the golf course.  The months of August through October tend to be the worst as the bees are most aggressive.  We treat immediately when we become aware.  Unfortunately there is no "preventative" treatment for these insects.  In the old days, Rickey Holland would go out at night with a ladder and slip a trash bag over the hive, cut the limb and tie the bag shut before the first bee even woke up!  Let me stress, those were the old days!  In the "new days", I am not that crazy and I don't have enough Epi-pens to deal with that situation.  Whenever you are outdoors involved with nature (golf included), please be careful of these different pests.  Avoid areas like south facing banks (fines fescue native areas) that tend to attract yellow jackets to build homes.  If your ball goes in an area like this, I would let it be because it simply isn't worth the risk.
