We'll be spending a considerable amount of time verticutting playing surfaces this week. This aggressive grooming helps the turf in several ways: reducing thatch, smoothing the surface and creating a more upright growth habit. That is a huge goal of mine at Highlands CC; continuing to improve the quality of our approaches. We've come a long way and still have room to go.
Thanks to Greg Crawford, we are back to having live swans on the lake! I am happy they are really getting along thus far. Swans tend to be very territorial, even with each other. Greg said these particular swans are younger and have yet to develop their aggressive attitude. Well, he didn't say that exactly but that's basically what he meant. Let's hope they live a long and healthy life, free of bobcats and coyotes. In case you are wondering, our realistic plastic swans have taken up residence at the managers cottage, in the front yard. They are able to observe traffic from this location and remain on the lookout for any predators.
