Highlands Salamanders

I came across this guy on the 15th hole this morning.  You probably know, Highlands is the Salamander capital of the world with more species of salamander here than anywhere else.  Several years ago, a PhD student from University of Missouri did his research on the golf course.  Salamanders, being nocturnal, do most of the activities at night.  The student said if you would go to creeks like on #5 or #15 and shine a flashlight along the banks, you could see thousands of these guys looking at you.  The light would reflect off their eyes making them very evident.  This research concluded that HCC was a great habitat for salamanders.  This says a lot because salamanders are indicator species for environmental issues and very sensitive to chemicals.
