Today, due to member feedback, we planted 4 river birches and 6 ferns in the area behind the restrooms on the 6th hole. In addition, we installed nice walk paths in order for members to safely access the restrooms from the #6 side. The river birches will add additional screening while the rhododendron fill in.
I have had several members comment on that fact that we exposed the restrooms. However, ALL and I repeat, All of the material growing in this area was dead. Often times, our memories don't recall reality. If it was attractive to begin with, it would not have been underbrushed. It will be attractive one dense rhododendron fill that area back in. Unfortunately, projects like this are a necessity on a golf course...particularly one like Highlands CC, built in 1928 and in many ways, neglected of tree work for 80 plus years.
