Monday

Above, we are working on the right hand side of the 3rd hole cutting briars, tree suckers and other undesirable vegetation growing in the rhododendron.  You are going to really notice the details when you return this Spring.

Below, the creeks are flowing after 4" of rain this past week.  Also, the rain total for 2014 at Highlands CC was 73 inches.  This is about 23" under our annual average.  If you looked at the forecast, you saw the low Wednesday is going to be 5*F.  At first I thought there was another number missing!

Below, the stump grinder continues around the course.  I estimate another 3 weeks worth of grinding stumps.

Above, center of the photo, is a terra cotta drain tile that drains into #15 creek.  This is how drainage was installed prior to perforated plastic pipe.  Every time we install drainage on the course, we run into this stuff constantly.  It is easy to get clogged and most times we are fixing an area where this occurred and water came to the surface.  There is no telling how much of this tile is underneath HCC!  However, we learned that today's problematic wet areas weren't much different in the 1930's-1960's.
