Good friend, Bob Farren, Director of Golf at Pinehurst is talking about the renovation done at Pinehurst No 2, two years ago. The course went from a 1500 sprinkler head, wall to wall irrigation system to a 400 total head system that only irrigates the center of the fairways. As you saw on TV this past June, the course was allowed to brown in perimeter areas. Some think this is the direction golf needs to go as water becomes more scarce and more expensive for those club who have to purchase irrigation water.
