Northern Water Snake vs Copperhead

On the 11th hole, I was waved down by a member who claimed he saw a copperhead on the headwall at 11 creek.  I fortunately got to see it and took this photo.  However, it was a Northern water snake, not a copperhead.  This species of snake is always misidentified as a copperhead because the colors are very similar.  There are distinct differences you can see below.  Water snakes are harmless creatures and can even be very beneficial.   There are rattlesnakes and copperheads in the Highlands area but I personally never saw one on the golf course.
