#14 drainage

Behind the 14th green (yellow house) there is a large catch basin on the opposite side of the road.  This basin receives water from the golf course and ultimately carries it to the stream behind the yellow home, adjacent to the 10th hole.  The old metal pipe is rusting, creating some cavitation in the yard.  We excavated around the basin, exposing the pipe.  we are going to back fill with surge stone, followed by a geo textile fabric.  Then we will put gravel on that.  Finally, 6-8" of topsoil will be placed on the top and seeded.  The submersible pump located behind the 14th green also is discharged into this basin.

In case you were not aware, we have 2 submersible pumps on the golf course.  One on the bottom of #6 and one at #14 green.  These low spots do not allow for traditional gravity fed drainage because the ground is lower than the outfall.  By excavating 8 feet below the surface and installing a stainless steel catch basin, we are able to pump the water away from the hole.  This in turn, effectively lowers the water table creating a dryer playing surface.  The pumps have a float mechanism on them, allowing them to run 24 hours a day when needed.  In fact, there is enough ground water that causes them to kick on every 3-4 minutes.
