On Saturday, I posted about methods to measure green speed. This is a booklet that comes with a Pelzmeter. I show this to you for one simple reason. As I mentioned on Saturday, these tools were developed for superintendents to compare green speeds from green to green on the same course. It was never intended to measure speeds from course to course as all golf course greens were designed differently. Maintaining 18 greens is a lot like having 18 children: you can't simply treat them all the same. In the case of HCC, what we do to #9 green in full sun is different than what we are able to do to a green like #16 in shade. Therefore, we use a stimpmeter or Pelzmeter to measure how fart apart we are and make turf management decisions to stay as consistent as possible.
